In 1991, Russell & Beryl Adams purchased the Skipton Business and property from Russell’s parents, when the business was operating as a milk bar general store. They changed the format to a small country supermarket and have now operated with success for over 18 years. They started as an unbannered General Store, moved to the Welcome Mart banner, then onto NRG and finally to FoodWorks, the leading independent supermarket group.

The building we operate our Skipton business out of was originally built in 1857 and has operated continuously with little external change to this day. Compare the photos of 1857 & 2008 below.

Today we trade as Adams FoodWorks Skipton and Adams FoodWorks Smythesdale. The FoodWorks banner consists of more than 135 independent retailers in Victoria and 710 FoodWorks retailers across Australia. This partnership gives us the required buying power to be very competitive whilst still supporting our local suppliers wherever possible by buying locally and supporting our local communities.

We have now purchased a new larger building and are currently modifying it ready of the internal fit out & opening. A greater product range will be available.
